• Don't "top" or severely prune your tree. This can put the tree into a stressed condition and upset the food production process.
• Never allow anyone wearing spurs or gaffs to climb a tree you want to keep.
• Do not raise or lower the soil level within the root zone of a tree.
• Avoid watering at the base of an established tree.
• Keep ivy, vines and other plants at least 18 inches from the trunks of all trees.
• Throw away the tree paint. It does not help prevent tree decay.
• If you want to do your own pruning, learn how to do it properly. A correct cut is one of the best things you can do for your tree.
• Construction projects can   be  very  harmful  to trees.   Most damage doesn't show for several years.   Think about your tree before starting the project.
